Being active in competitive martial arts from an early age, Michael developed an interest in sports medicine and nutrition. He commenced in a Bachelor of Science at UQ with a double major in biochemistry and physiology, during these years he studied Wing Chun and first experienced the benefits of herbal medicines. This inspired departing from lab work and moving to Melbourne and commencing study of naturopathy at SSNT in 1992, where he completed a massage qualification.
Michael returned to Brisbane and completed naturopathy and herbal medicine study at ACNM, now the Endeavour College. During the final years of study Michael worked as a massage therapist, with clients referred by musculoskeletal specialist Dr Ron Palmer. Michael registered as a Naturopath in 1998, performing consulting work for pharmacies and health food stores before establishing a multi-practitioner clinic in Brisbane, consulting full-time for several years.
With a young family beginning in 2001, Michael pursued an opportunity to commence a multimedia and education career with Griffith University - where he continued to become a Senior Research Assistant on projects investigating online learning. In years to follow he managed the production of online Master of Medicine (GP) for UQ, worked in International Admissions for UQ International and was Professional Development Manager for Pharmaceutical Society of Australia before commencing in the VET sector.
In recent years Michael has worked as Curriculum Development and External Studies Manager in the delivery of natural therapies courses at AIAS, whilst completing a Graduate Certificate in eLearning with UNE. He continues today in the development and delivery of nutrition courses for the fitness industry with AIPT, in parallel with private clinical practice. Michael is a passionate advocate for natural therapies education and contributes to best practice in the emerging models of online adult education and professional development.
