Dugald Seely ND, MSc, is a naturopathic doctor, researcher and administrator who has contributed to research on naturopathic medicine relevant to its application and evolution. Dr. Seely plays a lead role in developing the field of integrative oncology practice and research.
He serves as the executive director of research & clinical epidemiology at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine and is an affiliate investigator for the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. Dugald has been awarded over 10 million dollars in competitive grant and trainee funding and has led numerous clinical studies including most recently, the largest randomized integrative cancer care trial in North America.
Dugald completed his MSc in cancer research at the University of Toronto and is a Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology. He is an editor for numerous journals and currently treasurer and board member of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians. With a research focus and publications related to herb/drug interactions, Dr. Seely was appointed to Health Canada’s Expert Advisory Panel for the Vigilance of Health Products and has published over 60 peer reviewed papers.
As founder and executive director of the Ottawa Integrative Cancer Centre (OICC), Dr. Seely is pioneering and testing a contemporary cancer treatment model based on the application of scientifically grounded, evidence-informed complementary medicine. With the first integrative cancer care and research centre in Eastern Canada, Dugald and his team provide whole-person integrative care to people living with cancer to address research gaps in whole-systems cancer care. Dugald believes in the ability of evidence-based medicine to effect positive change in the health-care system and is actively building on this base seeking to shift our current model of cancer care towards a more proactive, whole-person model espoused by integrative oncology.
