Call for Abstracts for the NHAA 2017 Conference

20160720-NHAA-IC-Online-banner-230x230-CALL FOR ABSTRACTSWe invite authors to submit abstracts for presentations that align with the event themes of Innovation, Integration and Inspiration and the application of this to chronic health conditions including cancer, cardiovascular health, mental health, diabetes mellitus, asthma, arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions, obesity and dementia. Abstracts must align with one of the following sub-themes:

  • Clinical
  • Herbal Medicine Manufacture
  • Business and Practice Management
  • Research
  • Education
  • Public health and policy 

We are particularly interested in presentations that can provide practical application for herbalists, naturopaths, and health practitioners using herbal medicine

Main Abstract Submission - Key Dates:

  • Submissions open: 1 August 2016     Submissions close: 2 September 2016

Late-Breaking Abstract Submission - Key Dates:

  • Submissions open: 2 January 2017    Submissions close: 13 January 2017

Labor Party Plan to Stop Rebates for Natural Therapies

You may be aware that the Labor Party has announced their policy to stop rebates for Natural Therapies if they are elected on July 2, 2016.

There has been much discussion on this topic.  The NHAA would like to clarify some facts and our understanding of the potential impact should this policy be enacted.

Re herbal supplements lead to hepatic & renal transplantation ABC news online 1/3/16

A recent article in ABC News online described six cases of liver and renal failure ascribed to herbal supplements. While these extremely sad instances of illness are said to be due to a specific class of therapeutic product, there are several aspects to the ABC report that require clarification.

Re RACGP 'Just say no to naturopath test requests' Aust Doctor 23/2/16

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) issued a statement via the Australian Doctor on 23 Feb recommending their members refuse patient test requests from naturopathic practitioners. The rationale underlying this position is based on protection of members from medico-legal and financial risk that may arise from liability, litigation, or test rebate fees, as well as perceptions of patient safety. A template letter has been developed by the RACGP to send to practitioners outlining reasons for the rejection of such requests for patient testing.
