In November 2023, the NHAA took part in a third round of consultation with the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO). This review specifically related to shifting the employment classification for herbalists from the Personal Services/Personal Care Consultants classification to Allied Health Therapists (the classification already achieved for Australian naturopaths).
The review process involved a close collaboration between Australian Naturopathic Council (ANC) members, who we thank for their support as we continue to work together to achieve this outcome.
We hope that a reclassification will both improve employment prospects for Western herbal medicine practitioners and assist in educating the public about the vital role herbalists play in support the health and wellbeing of Australians.
